My Other Life as a Mermaid CROPPED SLIGH

ABOUT KATHRYN

Retirement from a career in public libraries has given Robinson the freedom to explore art quilting. In recent years she has taken many classes exploring which materials and techniques are most effective and enjoyable for the expression of feelings and observations. She is a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, the Minnesota Contemporary Quilters, the Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild and a member of a small but immensely supportive fiber art group called the “Dirty Dozen.”

ARTIST STATEMENT

Designing and making is something I have always been compelled to do. In elementary school I drew floor plans for houses, sailing ships and rocket ships. Later I experimented with sewing clothes, crocheting, drawing and photography until finally realizing that I especially enjoy creating with fabric. I find joy in using photos on fabric, in creating cyanotypes, in dyeing and painting fabric and ultimately in collaging together numerous elements. My work, which tends more often to be more of a mixed media style, frequently includes themes such as beauty in the everyday.
